Lead acid batteries facilities are a challenge to treatment technologies, especially those requiring settling of the particles. New regulations dictate that the shower water be treated, as well as the process water. This small change in the requirements introduces hundreds of shampoos, various types of soap, and other items which come with shower water.
A membrane treatment system is the answer, especially with the typical discharge

requirement of less than 20 parts per billion lead. Some locations can have a more restrictive limits, which can be achieved by adjusting the pretreatment setpoints.
Again, segregation is the key. Keep the shower water separate from the acid waste and the formation waste. And make sure that tanks are used to store spent sulfuric acid, not concrete pits.
